Check on the phone itself
The phone knows best. Any of these takes a minute and works for models that are not on the list.
Any phone
- Open the phone app and dial *#06#.
- If a line called EID (32 digits) appears, the phone supports eSIM.
iPhone
- Go to Settings › General › About.
- Scroll down. An EID or a Digital SIM section means eSIM is supported.
- Settings › Cellular (Mobile Data) also shows Add eSIM.
Android
- Go to Settings › Connections (or Network & internet) › SIM manager (or SIMs).
- An option such as Add eSIM or Download a SIM instead means eSIM is supported.
Is the phone unlocked?
A phone bought from a carrier on a contract can be locked to that carrier, and then a travel eSIM will not connect.
iPhone: Settings › General › About › Carrier Lock should say No SIM restrictions.
Android: there is no single menu for it. If a SIM from another carrier has worked in the phone, it is unlocked; otherwise ask the carrier.
Phone checks out? Pick a destination.
